✅COBB COUNTY: Thyme to Read Book Club: Cutting Back: My Apprenticeship in the Gardens of Kyoto by Leslie Buck, Friday, May 10, 10 - 11 am. >Cris Force will be the facilitator. All these books are available from the Cobb County Library System. Our meetings are open to the public and are held at 10:15 am at the Cobb County Water Lab, 662 South Cobb Drive. ✅COBB: 17th Annual “Gardening is for the Birds” educational Garden Tour will be held on Saturday, May 11, 10 am to 5 pm, and will feature six gardens, including four private gardens, a working daylily farm, and a Master Gardener project. All of the private gardens are owned by Cobb County Master Gardener volunteers. Rain or shine, these gardens will be open to show to garden-lovers, both young and old. ✅JASPER: Monarchs and Milkweeds Across Georgia, Saturday, May 11, 1 pm to 3 pm. Special guest speaker, Susan Meyers, holds degrees in microbiology and environmental science. "Bitten by the Monarch bug" in 2003, Susan has been to Mexico 12 times to visit the Monarch sanctuaries; volunteers with Monarchs Across Georgia; coordinates trips to the sanctuaries; and participates in a whole host of other supportive educational opportunities, plus much more! ✅DAHLONEGA: Georgia Mountains Master Gardeners (GMMG) May Program - All Things Weeds. Monday, May 13, 7 to 8 pm. Lumpkin County Parks and Recreation, 365 Riley Road in Dahlonega. UGA Extension Agent for Lumpkin and Dawson Counties, Clark MacAllister, will be presenting this informative program that will cover everything you need to know about weeds in the home landscape and lawn including weed identification, weeds commonly found in the area, how to control weeds (chemically, non-chemically and organic options) and why some weeds are more difficult to control. Participants are encouraged to bring weed samples or pictures for him to identify and provide advice. The program is free and open to the public.  Light refreshments will be provided. ✅MARIETTA: Open Garden at Wright Environmental Education Center, Thursday, May 16, 9 am - 12 pm. Joe Ranney of Wild Birds Unlimited will speak at 99:30 and 10:30 on “Backyard Birds,” which will include songbirds, migratory birds, owls, and raptors (hawks, vultures).   He will bring nest boxes, feeders, seeds, etc.  Make plans to attend the talks, and to walk the trails of this beautiful urban forest.  2661 Johnson Ferry Road, Marietta.
