Gardening Tips: June

Spring Has Sprung in NE GA!

  • Bring houseplants outdoors into bright shade to help them get a head start. Use this time to wash them down and check for insects or disease. Repot as needed.

  • Mulch between veggie garden rows to help control weeds

  • Prune spring-flowering trees and shrubs after the bloom has passed

  • Allow a little munching on perennials or ornamentals! Control pests with a water hose, or spray Neem oil (not on blooms!) late in the day when pollinators have gone to rest

  • Plant for hummingbirds! Coral honeysuckle, red or blue salvias are big hits

  • Keep newly planted shrubs well watered (water deeply in the mornings, avoiding leaves)

  • Mow turf grass at recommended heights; avoid weed and feed products; only apply herbicides to areas with infestations

  • Examine large trees and remove diseased or dead branches (consult a professional if needed)

  • Plant warm-weather veggies and annuals that can take summer heat
