Below, Rabun High senior Eli Owens with Headwaters MG Andrea Richardson. Eli will study agricultural technology at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College this fall.
Headwaters Master Gardeners provides three scholarships of $1,000 each year to high school seniors who are pursuing a career in horticulture, agriculture or environmental science in Habersham, Rabun and White counties.
Students at Habersham Central High School, Rabun County High School, and White County High School are eligible, along with home-schooled students from the three counties. Applicants must live in one of these counties.
Applications are available from Guidance Counselors/College Coordinators at each school. Applications for home-schooled students can be obtained from the following county extension agents (see box).
The deadline for submitting applications is March 5 of each year. Headwaters Master Gardeners are able to fund these scholarships through fundraising activities throughout the year, especially our Spring Plant Sale held each May.
In addition, a $1,000 scholarship is awarded to an outstanding 4-H student selected by the three county agents in the Headwaters area.
