Yes.  BULB LASAGNA.  It’s a thing.

To get or give a pot full of glorious spring blooms, I recommend layering bulbs, as the Dutch do.  They call it “bulb lasagna.”

For starters, you will need a 12-14 inch deep pot with a drain hole. I like a “potbelly “ style pot. Place a layer of old wine corks in the bottom for drainage. Add approximately 2 inches of a good controlled moisture potting mix.  Then start layering the bulbs up, one on top of another with the largest and latest blooming the deepest, moving to the mid-blooming, and ending with the smallest, earliest blooming on top.

You can easily snuggle 25-30 bulbs per pot. Put soil between each layer of bulbs, ending with 2 inches of soil to top it all off. I love tulip blooms. The picture below is my “fiesta of blooms” I planted last spring. With the staggered blooming I enjoyed those tulips for 8 weeks.

You can get creative using bulbs of your choice and top it all off with pansies, violas or any cool weather-loving plant. Place your pot in full sun where you can anticipate the blooms to come.  Enjoy them for weeks.
